Description

1. 5280 WESTERHAM WESTERHAM Market Square (North Side) The George and Dragon Hotel TQ 4454 35/1427 II 2. Timber framed house, probably of C17, with C18 front elevation. 2 storeys and attic, 6 windows, with 2-storey, 1-window right extension over carriageway. High pitched, tiled roof with 4 flat dormers. Deep eaves with exposed, moulded beam ends. Right bay has moulded eaves cornice. Walls brick partly rendered, now all painted white. 1st floor window show building was formerly 2 dwellings. Those on left early C19 recessed sash windows with glazing bars, (one modern casement inserted); those on right C18 sash windows with glazing bars in near-flush moulded frames, some 2-light. Modern wood balcony at left. On ground floor some modern casements, some recessed sashes with glazing bars. Late C19 fancy wood porch. Painted panel on 1st floor: "General Wolfe, on his last visit to Westerham, stayed at this Inn, December 1758." Rear elevations of brick and stucco with C19 and modern casements.
