Description

1. 5280 WESTERHAM WESTERHAM Vicarage Hill (South Side) The Vicarage and Vicarage Flat above TQ 4453 36/1460 10.9.54. II* 2. C15 or earlier hall house of Wealden shape, much altered. Front elevation of 2 storeys and attic, 4 windows. High pitched roof now covered in graduated slates. End chimney showing some old brick. 4 modern flat dormers and skylight. Eaves soffit, very deep over set back centre part. Whole front refaced in mathematical tiles in C18, and now painted white. 4 modern casements, irregularly placed, on 1st floor. On ground floor 6 sash windows, 4 with C18 glazing bars. Modern gabled porch in centre. Inside hall has had 1st floor inserted but remains of screens passage visible as 2 heavy wood-framed doorways with 4-centred wood heads inserted somewhat later. Massive threshhold below. Much exposed timber including great tie beam and crown post (which has lost 2 braces) and?old plank floors. Also several old brick fireplaces. C19 south extensions. The house has been in continuous use as a Vicarage at least since the C15. It is also the birthplace of General Wolfe. Listing NGR: TQ4477553979
