Description

TQ 44 NE EDENBRIDGE FOUR ELMS 49/2002 Former Oasthouse and Stabling of Chittenden House GV II Stabling with hayloft above and oasthouse attached. C18 range with oasthouse added in early C19 and rear wall rebuilt in later C19. Built of ragstone, brick and weatherboarding with tiled roof. Front has a base of ragstone with C18 brick dressings and is weatherboarded above. 3 C19 louvred apertures to 1st floor. Ground floor has 2 later casements and 2 stable doors. Rear elevation has brick ground floor in English bond. Right side elevation has weatherboarded gable with loading door and door holes. Left side elevation is completely of ragstone to counter the prevailing wind. Attached oasthouse is a cylindrical brick structure in Sussex bond with conical tiled roof but cowl and fantail missing at time of survey. Interior has roof of 8 bays, Queen post with through purlins and ridge piece to part only. C19 grain bins to 1st floor. Ground floor comprises 4 stalls still retaining wooden stall partitions brick floor and wooden hooks. The adjoining room was probably a tack room. Listing NGR: TQ4444145504
