49/381 Polands Barn & Oast
II
Barn with attached oast, now restaurant and shop. Early C17 barn with C19 oast Barn is 4 bays timberframed, the exterior weatherboarded on part brick base with thatched roof. Some inserted windows. Left side has late C18 or early C19 former cow byre (now restaurant,) weatherboarded and concealing some old weatherboarding to barn.Right side end has attached mid C19 circular oast in red brick header bond with some vitrified headers. Conical tiled roof and wooden cowl with fantail missing at time of survey. Interior of barn has gunstock jowled posts, midrail and curved tension braces. Roof has angled queen struts with diminishing rafters without ridgepiece and through purlins. Curved windbraces, not all present.
