Description

The following building shall be added to the list: TQ 5456 NE SEAL CHURCH ROAD (south side) 27/992 Forge Cottage GV II Cottage. C15, remodelled in early C17 and with later alterations. Timber- framed with colour-washed brick and wattle and daub infill and with arch bracing (original to building but reset in present position); tile-hung cladding to sides; hipped plain old tile roof with gambrel to right; brick ridge stack and C19 brick right end stack. C15 open-hall dwelling remodelled as 2-unit plan in early C17. 2 storeys, with cellar; 2-window range. Mid C20 entry to cellar. Mid C20 hipped brick porch. Mid C20 2-light windows and gabled half dormer. Mid C20 brick outshut to rear. Interior: C15 smoke-blackened common-rafter roof of 2 bays with jowled storey posts and deep arch bracing to C15 truss on right; truncated half-bay to right of this truss. Ground floor has joists to ceiling of small former service room on left and larger room to right with chamfered beam, ogee-stopped chamfered wall beam to left and open fireplace with chamfered bressummer and stone jambs; C18/19 winder staircase to rear of stack. Cellar has dressed stone walls and late C18 brick barrel-vaulted roof. Listing NGR: TQ5494556772
