Garden statue. One of pair of probable C18 Portland stone sphinxes based on classical antique Egyptian models, situated either side of a flight of mid C19 steps. Sphinx is about 5 feet in length, in recumbent position and set on rectangular stone base. It has probably been in this position since the rose garden was laid out in the C19.
