TQ 44 SW. EDENBRIDGE GREYBURY LANE 52/10051 Numbers 3,4 and 5 13.1.99 II House and cottage, possibly an inn at one time, subdivided into three properties. Rear range, (no 3 and part of no 4) is a late C16 house, probably of 4 bays, refronted in the mid C19 when a cottage was added on to the front of no 4, which is partly integrated into no 4 and is partly no 5. N o 3 and rear part of no 4 timberframed on ironstone plinth, refronted in red brick to ground floor and tile-hanging to first floor. Tiled roof, hipped to left and gabled to right, with two brick chimneystacks. Two storeys; 3 windows to front, 4 to rear .C19 casements and gabled brick and tiled weatherporch to no 3. Front range (part of no 4 and no 5) is timberframed with tile-hanging to first floor and red brick ground floor. Tiled roof with brick end chimneystacks. Two storeys; 3 windows. End windows tripartite, cambered to ground floor, all with leaded lights. Central penticed weatherporch to no 4 and side penticed weatherporch to no 5. INTERIOR: No 4 has spine beam with one inch chamfer and lambs tongue stops. Framed partition walls with wattle and daub infill and rush light marks. Jowled upright posts. Mortice holes for two diamond mullioned windows survive. Original floorboards. Roof structure of rafters without ridgepiece, through purlins and diagonal windbraces. Plank doors. Ground floor has two early C19 brick fireplaces. HISTORY: Rearrange of this building is shown on C18 estate map and is thought to have been an inn at some stage. Listing NGR: TQ4363443826
