Description

1. 5280 SEAL HIGH STREET former stables and Hayloft to Kentish Yeoman Public House TQ 5456 NE 27/1477 II G.V 2. Former stables and hayloft to P.H, later partially a garage. Late C18 to early C19, altered C20.Timberframed building clad with tarred weatherboarding on ragstone plinth. Gabled, peg tiled roof. 1 storey with attic hayloft set end on to street. North elevation has attic hayloft door with iron pintle hinges and later garage doors on ground floor. East elevation has 2 gabled dormers, one having the remains of a hoist. 5 early C19 top opening casements with sloping weather hoods. 3 stable doors with plank doors. One original opening on right side has a concrete block insertion with C20 casements and C20 small plank door to left. Interior has softwood framing of thin scantling, chamfered ceiling beams with 1/2 inch chamfers and jowled posts. Southern part has 2 stalls divided by vertical plank partitions, wooden manger and remains of hayrack and a wooden peg for hanging the harness. Central part has 4 stalls with wooden stall partitions, manger and wooden apertures with iron grilles for distributing hay. The northern part has one stall partition and a manger but the northernmost bay had been converted to a garage and W.C at the time of survey. Listing NGR: TQ5495656704
