Description

1. 5280 WESTERHAM CROCKHAM HILL Crockham House (Formerly listed as Crockham Street) TQ 45 SW 44/1475 lO.9.54. II* 2. Restored C15 or earlier timber-framed house with C17 and modern additions. Front elevation 2 storeys and attic, 3 windows in old part. Tiled roof with one tall compound centre stack, 2 diagonal shafts at right, probably mid C17. Modern hipped tiled dormer. 1-storey gabled riglt front addition. Modern gabled wood porch. 1 or 2 old iron casements, other casements replaced. [Three-window left extension, with returned gable at end, modern but in similar style]. Exposed framing with filling partly plaster and partly brick. Quarry tiled terrace with low stone wall in front. Rear elevation 2 storeys and attic, assorted windows, mostly replaced, leaded casements. At right projecting mid C17 timber framed wing. Plaster filling on 1st floor, rubble masonry below. End wall of coursed rubble with flint galleting. Kneelers with ball finials to stone coped gable crowned by brick chimney shaft bearing datestone, 1658. 2 diagonal shafts above. Inside much exposed timber including very heavy arch braced tie beams and crown post missing one brace. Inglenook fireplace with heavy, roll moulded beam. Old wainscoting to staircase. C17 panelling, arcaded over chimneypiece of upstairs room. Old plank floors. Piece of late C16 wall painting on plaster. Panel with scripture text in gothic lettering within guilloche border on ground of shaped panels of fruit and flower ornament. Listing NGR: TQ4461852032
