Description

1. EAST STREET 1732 (South Side) The Port Reeve's House TQ 5946 NW 3/50 8.5.50. II* 2. Good example of a C15 timber-framed house (restored after war damage). It is built on a raised bank fronted along the pavement with sandstone. 2 storeys and attic. 4 windows. Plaster infilling. The first floor over-hangs on a moulded bressummer and brackets. 2 wide curved braces on first floor. 1 gable above over-hanging on moulded bressummer and brackets with moulded bargeboards and attic window. Also small gabled dormer to the west. Tiled roof. On the ground and first floors beneath the gable are oriel windows projecting on brackets and containing 5 lights each with wooden mullions and transom. Small window of 2 lights on either side of these oriel windows. Other windows modern. At the east end a massive chimney breast of red brick and sandstone with brick stack. Smaller wholly brick chimney at the west end. Listing NGR: TQ5917046610
