TQ 6053 PLAXTOL THE STREET 6/22 (north side) 1.8.52 The Forge Restaurant (formerly listed as Old Forge House) GV II Farmhouse now restaurant. Late C16 farmhouse, with C19 wing to left, formerly the village forge. Red and grey brick. Underbuilt ground floor, tile-hung first floor. Plain tiled roof, with end stack to east and centre stack off-ridge to front. Two storeys; 3 window front, modern diamond lattice casements. Boarded and ribbed door to right with C18 flat hood on barckets. Lean-to extension to right. C19 wing to left, projecting to south, Painted brick with plain tiled roof and catslide to west. Two storeys; one window in south end, diamond lattice casements. Entrance and large open bay to right on east return side with weatherboarding above bay. Interior. Two original forges inside house adjacent to C19 wing. One stop-chamfered fireplace bressumer with salthole. Also cobbled pavement in front of left-hand part of house. Listing NGR: TQ6029653540
