Description

TQ 65 SW PLAXTOL SCHOOL LANE 4/27 (west side) School (Now Memorial Hall) and former Schoolmaster's House GV II School and Master's House. Dated 1856. Two parts, school to left, Master's house to right. School. Ashlar plinth, squared rubble with red brick dressings. Slate roof. One-storey; 7 window front. Gabled semi-dormers to left, the window with pointed arched head. To right 3 windows either side of doorway. Large casement with wooden mullions and gauged heads. Round-headed doorway, now blocked, with datestone above. Master's House. Coursed galletted rubble stone with red brick dressings. Cross-gabled slate roof, with central brick stack. Three neo-Elizabethan stacks with toothed cornices, grouped together. One-storey and attic; 2 window front, with one window in gable. Casements with gauged heads. Entrance to right with pointed arch and part-glazed door. Wing to rear with double off-ridge stack in similar neo-Elizabethan style. Listing NGR: TQ6183653667
