WEST MALLING TQ6857 HIGH STREET 1156-0/3/21 Nos.83-91 (Odd) Stedham (85 & 87) Andrew Smith (89) Huntsman (91) and 83 is the flat behind GV II 3 shops with living accommodation. c1870 range in Gothic style. Random ragstone rubble with tiled roof and 2 elaborate stock brick chimneystacks. 2 storeys and attics, 8 windows in all. No 87 has 2 projecting gables with kneelers and central gargoyle. Attic has lancets. 1st floor has central mullioned and transomed casements with 'chinoiserie' glazing flanked by lancets with similar pattern. Ground floor has fine C19 shopfront with 4 arches and trefoil spandrels. Right side rusticated arch. Left side splayed corner. Left side elevation has ground floor of stone rubble and 1st floor overhanging with applied eclectic timber-framing. 6-panelled door. Rear elevation has sash windows with stock brick dressings. Nos 89 and 91 have large central gable with finial. 2nd floor has paired lancet with 'chinoiserie' glazing surviving to right side only. 1st floor has 2 sashes without glazing bars and end lancets now without 'chinoiserie' glazing. Ground floor has C19 shopfront with panelled risers to No 89 and later splayed shop front to No 91. Cambered pedestrian entrance to right. No 89 has elaborate C19 iron clock on brackets and central iron lamp bracket. Listing NGR: TQ6803157717
