Description

WEST MALLING TQ6757 HIGH STREET 1156-0/2/66 No.136 01/08/52 Tudor House GV II House. Front range early C18, rear range probably C16 or C17 timber-framed building refronted in C18. Front range red brick in Flemish bond with grey headers on plinth of stone rubble with stone galleting. Hipped tiled roof with central brick chimneystack. 2 storeys and attics, 4 windows. Attic has 2 flat-roofed dormers (each having old cames to half of window). Deep wooden modillion cornice. Sashes of 12-pane early C19 type with moulded architraves, stringcourse and rubbed brick arches. Doorcase has late C18 or early C19 cornice with reeded brackets and drops similar to Arundal House, reeded frieze, rectangular fanlight and 6-panelled door. Attached spear railings to forecourt on stone base. Left side elevation has one 12-pane sash with jalousies, 1 blocked-in window and 1 cambered window to ground floor. Rear wing of 2 storeys is of lower elevation with tiled roof, massive off-central brick chimneystack and end brick stack. 2 casements and right side 16-pane sash. Internally the main sitting room in the south-east angle is panelled in pine and was painted to imitate hardwood with marquetry. 3 early grates and chimneypieces. Rear wing has exposed framing, bread oven and oak 6-panel door with C16 hinges and latch. Listing NGR: TQ6794157579
