Description

HADLOW SHIPBOURNE ROAD TQ 55 SE 2/92 North Lodge 18.5.87 II Lodge, formerly for Dene Park. Mid C19. Red-brown brick laid to a random bond, timber-framed bays with roughcast infill; brick stack and original ornamental chimneyshafts, tall and slender divided octagonal shafts with star- shaped coping; peg-tile roof. Plan: Small T-plan house. The main block is end onto the road and faces south east onto the former drive to Dene Park. It has a 2-room plan with an ax-ial stack between serving back-to-back fireplaces on both floors. Front lobby entrance behind 2-storey porch. One-room plan kitchen block projects to rear of centre and has gable-end stack. 2 storeys. Exterior: Tudor style. Assymmetrical 2-window front. To left a full height timber-framed bay with semi-pyramidal roof sloping back under a gable. Windows here, as elsewhere, are casements with diamond and half-hexagonal pattern of iron glazing bars. To right lobby entrance doorway behind 2-storey timber-framed and gabled porch. Upper porch room on posts with shaped boards making a shoulder-headed arch which is the head of an overlight and below a part-glazed panelled door flanked by shoulder-headed side lights. Roof is gable-ended. All the gables have fretted wavey bargeboards with apex finials. The right gable end has a 2-storey canted timber-framed bay window similar to the one on the front.
