Description

HILDENBOROUGH LONDON ROAD (north east side) TQ 54 NE 5/127 Herring memorial about 12m - north east of the vestry of the Church of St John GV II Memorial cross. 1865. White Italian marble. A white marble cross on a chamfered plinth with a plain rectangular base. The cross commemorates John Herring of Meopham Bank, died 1864 and his wives and son. John Herring, the C19 genre painter, lived at Meopham Bank (q.v.) from 1853- 1865. Listing NGR: TQ5580049400
