Description

WROTHAM 147603 ST MARY'S ROAD 191/0/10004 Oak Cottage 02-JUL-01 GV II House. Late C16, refenestrated in C19 and with lean-to extensions added at each end in C20, south 1930s, north 1978 and flat-roofed C20 extension to south east. Timberframed with C20 plastered pargetted infill to first floor and painted brick infill to ground floor with old tiled roof with tiled gable end to north and external brick chimneystack to south end. North and south ends have C20 brick and rendered leanto extensions with tiled roofs. Two storeys: irregular fenestration of mainly C19 casement windows. Plan form is two bay end chimneystack house. Exterior has exposed timberframe with midrail and vertical posts. Front or east elevation has original oak door to right side of south bay with pintle hinges and firemark above. INTERIOR: Sitting room has large open fireplace with wooden bressumer, three inch chamfered spine beam with triangular stops and one inch chamfered floor joists and plank door with pintle hinges. Ceiling beams to north room are unchamfered. Sockets for original diamond-mullioned window visible in former end north wall. First floor principal bedroom above sitting room has late C16 brick fireplace with C19 tiled surround. Queenpost roof with purlins, original rafters and some diagonal tension braces and the wall frame is visible with jowled posts. Carpenters' marks. Original oak floorboards. Further bedroom panelled in 1930s but corner post visible. Listing NGR: TQ6110859092
