Description

TQ 7444 MARDEN HIGH STREET (north side) 5/59 Shepherd's House 23.5.67 GV II House. Late C18 or early C19. Clad with channelled render. Roof slate to front, plain tile to rear. Double depth. 2 storeys and attic. Dentilled wooden eaves cornice. Mansard roof. Brick stacks towards rear to right and left. Flat-roofed three-light dormer towards centre. Regular three-window front of 16-pane sashes in open boxes. Tall ground-floor windows with shallow moulded cornices. Central panelled door with semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. Porch with columns with reeded capitals, and with flat corniced hood. Two short conjoined rear wings to right and left, with chequered red and grey brick ground floor, tile-hung first floor and roofs hipped to rear. Former stables attached to left, set back from front elevation; ground floor painted brick, first floor tile-hung. 2 storeys and garret with half-hipped gambrel roof, lower pitch with plain tiles, upper with slate. Irregular fenestration of two small four-pane sashes. Long multipane first-floor rear window. Boarded and garage doors to ground floor. Interior: Central staircase with stick balusters. Central doorway between front and rear ranges on each floor, with semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. Panelled doors. Late C18 or early C19 fireplace and grate to each room. Reeded borders to ceilings. Stone flag floor to rear left room. Backs onto churchyard. Listing NGR: TQ7446944615
