GALLANTS LANE TQ 75 SW EAST FARLEIGH (East Side) 2/31 Gallants Manor and Mounting Block 23.5.67 (formerly listed as Gallants Farm House and the Outhouse adjoining) II Manor house, now farmhouse. C14, with C16 addition and C17 and late C18 or early C19 alterations. Roughly coursed galleted ragstone to main range and to ground floor of left cross-wing. First floor of left cross-wing tile-hung. C16 wing has stone rubble ground floor and exposed framing with rendered infilling to first floor. Addition to right end of main range in small blocks of roughly coursed stone. Plain tile roofs. C14 main range of one large room, probably a hall. Cross-wing of similar date to left, projecting slightly to rear. C16 addition of 3 timber-framed bays (on first floor) running forwards from front left-hand (north-west) corner of cross- wing. Late C18 or early C19 addition or rebuilt bay to right of hall. 2 storeys, main range with cellar towards right end. C16 wing has slight jetty to long right (south) side,broadly-spaced studding with tension braces and hipped roof with gablets. Roof of main range, incorporating cross-wing, three- quarters hipped to right and hipped to left, hips returning. Slender project- ing stack to left (north) side of C16 wing and two to left side of cross-wing. Rear stack towards left end of main range and to right of centre. Irregular fenestration to main range and cross-wing of three 2-light casements. Ground floor windows with segmental heads. C16 wing has one 2-light casement to south and one 4-light to west gable end. Half-glazed door to left end of main (hall) range (site of former cross-passage), with fluted pilasters and flat bracketed hood. Blocked 4-centred arched stone doorway towards west end of south side of C16 wing, and blocked rectangular south window. Blocked doorway with pegged head to west end of first floor of north side of C16 wing. Red brick lean-to to north side of cross-wing. Mounting block of 3 stone steps attached to north- west corner of C16 wing. Interior: 3 juxtaposed plain-chamfered pointed-arched stone doorways towards centre of left (north) wall of hall. Exposed framing of heavy scantling towards east end of first floor of cross-wing, with dragon tie to south-east corner, braced cambered tie-beams and 2 octagonal crown-posts. Unmoulded cornice(?) bressumer on top of wall-plate. Exposed framing to first floor of C16 wing. 2 heavy-scantling C17 axial beams with jewelled chamfer stops to ground floor of "hall". Roof of main range not inspected.
