10/234 Nos. 14, 15 and 16 (Formerly listed as 20.10.52. Wickham House and the adjoining house) GV II
House, now house row. Mid C15 with early C18 facade and early C19 alterations. Timber framed, 3/4 clad in chequered red and grey brick in the early-to-mid C18, left end bay early C19, red brick on ground floor with mathematical tiling above. Plain tile roof. Large Wealden with hall of 2 roughly equal bays and one storeyed bay to either end. Recess retained but jetties underbuilt. Rear wing to No. 16 to right and C18 rear wing to No.14 to left, connecting front range to possible former stables and forming courtyard. 2 storeys, attics and cellar on plinth, with plat band to all but left end bay. Moulded wood eaves cornice across whole of front elevation, with plain modillions under it in recess. Half- hipped roof. 3 red brick stacks; one small stack projecting to left gable end, multiple central brick ridge stack, and large projecting stack to right end. 3 dormers with triangular modillioned pediments, spanning Nos. 15 and 16 only. Irregular fenestration of 6 windows, one C19 3-light casement to left end,3 sashes with thick glazing bars to central recess, and 2 glazing-bar sashes to right end bay. Ground floor windows have rubbed brick voussoirs. Boarded door to No. 14 in left gable end, door to No. 15 with 4 fielded panels, 2 top lights and plain rectangular fanlight in early C19. Chequered red and grey brick porch with moulded brick cornice, beneath stack, off-centre to right of recess. Door to No. 16 up 3 steps, with 3 panels and 3 vertical top lights, with Doric pilasters carrying plain entablature and short flat hood. Interior No. 15: central truss with hollow chamfer to post and very large braces. Ogee end-of-hall braces. Original cellar (unusual) beneath right end bay (no. 16). Exposed timbers. C15, late C16/early C17, C18 and C19 features. Interiors Nos. 14 and 16 not inspected.
