YALDING LEES ROAD TQ 6949 (East side) Laddingford 7/158 Uptons 23-5-67 II Farmhouse, now house. Mid C17, with later C17 or early C18 addition. Early C19 alterations to facade. Timber framed. Exposed principal posts, and studs flanking windows, to ground floor, with brick infilling and herring- bone top course. Panelled render stuck with broken glass to first floor. Slate to front slope of roof, plain tiles to rear. Plain-tile roofs to rear wings. Central-entry plan of 3 (or possibly 5) timber-framed bays, central bay relatively short, and each long flanking bay possibly subdivided into two. Apparently integral rear return wing to right of two timber-framed bays. Later C17 or early C18 central wing of three timber-framed bays, abutting right wing, and stopping short of left gable end of main range. 2 storeys and garret. Cellar to front range only. Galleted ragstone plinth. Flat eaves soffits. Roof gabled to left, half- hipped to right. Right wing has much lower eaves than front range, lower ridge, and gable to rear. Central wing has only slightly lower eaves than front range, lower ridge, and half hip to rear. Very slightly projecting gable end stack to left, with galleted stone base on chamfered galleted stone plinth, and with chequered red and grey brick flue. Multiple red and grey brick stack to rear of right bay. Projecting painted brick stack to rear gable end of right wing. Irregular fenestration of 5 leaded cross windows with moulded architraves. Two tripartite sashes to ground floor, that to left narrower. Left bay has intermediate post to right of stack, on ground floor, with one rail pegged between it and left post towards top, and another towards bottom, and two studs pegged between the rails; possibly a blocked fire window (unusual in this area). Similar arrangement to rear. Recessed central door of six fielded panels, with rectangular four-light fanlight above door but to front of recess, and with flat consoled hood, up three steps. Interior: left ground-floor room has two chamfered cross beams with two sets of chamfered axial beams tenoned to them, and deeply-chamfered joists. Right ground-floor room has two deeply-chamfered axial beams with two sets of similarly-chamfered cross beams tenoned to them. Cill-beam runs back into right wing. Fireplace to rear wall, with attenuated four- centred-arched bressumer with hollow spandrels. Rear of stack, projecting into wing, is of ashlar, with high chamfered plinth. Boxed axial beam to left first-floor room and hollow-chamfered axial beam to right. Gunstock- jowled posts to front range and right wing, cut jowls to central wing. Dog-leg stairs from ground floor to attic, filling rear half of central bay. Tall door with six moulded panels at head of stairs on first floor. Staggered butt purlin roof to front range, ceiled above purlins. Similar roof to right wing. Listing NGR: TQ6910648933
