BOUGHTON MONCHELSEA HEATH ROAD TQ 75 SE (North side) Cock Street 1/29 Swallows (formerly listed as Forge 23.5.67 Cottages) GV II House, formerly cottages, now house. C15, with C16 alterations. Restored mid-to-late C20. Timber framed with rendered infilling. Plain tile roof. Open hall of 2 roughly equal-length timber-framed bays, with storeyed end bays. Left end bay possibly incorporated undershot cross-passage. Smoke- bay probably created in left hall bay before stack inserted. 2 storeys on stone plinth. Broadly-spaced studding with tension braces. Gable end jetties. Steeply-pitched hipped roof with gablets. Slender brick stack in rear slope of roof towards left end and multiple brick ridge stack to right end of left hall bay. Irregular fenestration of 4 leaded casements; one 4-light to left, one 3-light to left of stack and one to right end. Slightly projecting rectangular 3-light oriel window on shaped brackets, one carved with date 1616, to right hall bay. Oriel rises through eaves with moulded beam to window head and plain bargeboards to gable. Ribbed door in C20 rendered porch to left end of right end bay. Interior: exposed framing. Moulded right end- of-hall beam. Moulded crown-post to central truss and, set on axial tie-beam, to left end bay. Ground-floor fireplace with tooled and chamfered jambs and wooden bressumer.
