Description

LANGLEY CHARTWAY STREET TQ 85 SW (north side) 2/90 Langley Lodge GV II House. Mid-to-late C18 with mid C19 addition. Said to have C16 core. C18 section chequered red and grey brick, with left return wall rendered on ground floor, tile-hung above. C19 section chequered red and grey brick to lower half of ground floor, with red brick in Flemish bond above. Plain tile roofs. C18 or earlier block at right-angles to road, with taller C19 range added parallel to road to front. C19 range: 2 storeys on brick plinth. Projecting eaves with moulded wooden eaves cornice. Shallow-pitched hipped roof. Slightly projecting brick end stacks and central rear stack. Regular 5-window front of recessed 4-pane glazing-bar sashes with segmental-headed glazing, rubbed brick voussoirs and brick keystones. 4 taller ground- floor windows. Deeply recessed central panelled door with tall rectangular fanlight. Outer architrave with C20 glazing, semi- circular head, rubbed brick voussoirs and keystone, up 4 steps. Rear wing to left: 2 storeys on rendered plinth with plain wooden eaves band. Hipped roof, left hip returning. Central brick stack. Irregular fenestration of two 12-pane glazing-bar sashes in open boxes. Panelled door to right of stack. Return wing to left. Interior not inspected. Listing NGR: TQ8185450245
