Description

YALDING BOW HILL TQ 65 SE (South side) 1/71 Stables about 5 metres west of Bow Hill House GV II Stables. Late C18 or early C19. Red and grey brick in Flemish bond. Slate roof. Central coach-house gable-end to yard, with broad lean-to stable to each side. Coach-house 2 storeys. Gable end of coach-house breaks forwards from lean-tos. Dentilled brick eaves band and verge to each lean-to, leading up towards the similar band and verges which form a pedimented gable to the coach-house. Clock face within pedimented gable. One three-light horizontally-sliding sash to first floor of coach-house. Irregular ground-floor fenestration of one Diocletian window with rubbed brick voussoirs to each lean-to. One two-light centrally-pivoting window with segmental head to long side of each lean-to. Stable door with splayed stone on rendered lintel to outer end of each lean-to. Tall double doors with splayed brick voussoirs to gable end of coach-house. Small tapering stone carved with mask in relief to each side of coach- house window and over each stable door. Interior: three stalls to each lean-to, each with rectangular opening above it, communicating with first- floor hay-loft over coach-house. Each opening on right side has semicircular wooden drum, or vertical shute, between it and hay-rack. Stalls in left lean-to have iron newel posts with knob finials. Stairs to hay-loft to front end of right lean-to and opening for similar to left. Listing NGR: TQ6944051900
