3/72 The Lodge and Gatepiers attached (pair of Gatepiers and Flanking Lodges) II Pair of gatepiers, each flanked by a lodge, to grounds of Leeds Castle. Early C20. Lodges: Roughly coursed stone with ashlared dressings. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys on plinth with plat band and slightly coved stone cornice. Conical roof to each, with central stone stack. Each has regular fenestration of one two- light ovolo-moulded mullion window to each floor to road and to gateway elevations. Elevations to park each have one central first floor window flanked by smaller 2-light frieze windows and 2 ground floor (but no central) windows. Central first floor windows break through eaves with deep horizontal, slightly corniced, stone pediments. Each lodge has small rectangular ground-floor window immediately to road side of gates. Each has ribbed door to gateway in rectangular stone architrave with rectangular fanlight above, beneath central window to park side of gates, up 2 steps, with iron handrail. Decorative rainwater heads. Interiors not inspected. Gatepiers: each lodge attached to gatepiers by an approximately 6 foot stretch of wall. Each gatepier stone,rectangular, with moulded plinth, corniced top, vertical fillet to each side and scroll between pier and wall. Each pier surmounted by gadrooned urn.
