TQ 75 NE DETLING THE STREET (east side) 5/138 Nos. 36 and 38 (The 26.4.68 Homestead) (formerly listed as The 'Homestead and Belmont) G.V. II 2 houses and shop, now one house. C15, C17, C18 and C19. All timber framed, now rendered, with tile-hung left gable end and plain tile roof. No. 36 : comprises C15 storeyed north end bay of a building set well back from road and since demolished. Bay immediately to right (south) of it rebuilt in mid C17 and right end bay added slightly later. Butcher's shop added to front of C15 bay in late C18 or early C19 forming L plan. No. 38: late C17 or early C18 with early C19 facade, originally separate from No. 36, and to north. No. 36: 2 storeys, butcher's shop with flat canopy over shop front and boxed coved wood eaves cornice which continues along right return elevation only. Roof of shop hipped to road but also continuous with No. 38. Roof of rear range hipped to right. Ridge stack off-centre to right of rear range. Irregular fenestration of one first-floor glazing- bar sash over shop and 2 four-light mullioned and transomed casements, possibly original, to rear range. C19 double shop front with C20 ribbed door to left and central C19 panelled door with rectangular light over. Doorway with moulded architrave and flat hood on carved brackets in right return elevation of shop towards junction with rear range. No. 38: 2 storeys and attic with moulded eaves cornice stopping short of the ends, and plain coped parapet. Raised border with concave corners round whole of front elevation, extending above eaves cornice. Rear brick stack off- centre to right. 2 plain dormers. Regular fenestration of 2 glazing- bar sashes and blocked central window recess. Central panelled door flanked by reeded pilasters, with very small flat moulded hood. Interior: C15 bay formerly jettied to north, east and west with moulded dragon post to north-east. Bay to right has moulded wood corbels to cross-beam. Listing NGR: TQ7932158303
