Description

LENHAM BULL LANE TQ 955W (west side) 5/141 The Forstal GV II Farmhouse. Possibly C15 or early C16, with C17 alterations and C19 additions. Timber-framed core. Outer walls C19 red brick in Flemish bond on ground floor returning short distance round left end. First floor tile hung. Part of left gable end red brick with occasional grey headers in Flemish bond. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys on plinth. Roof formerly hipped to left, now gabled. C19 corbelled and filleted brick ridge stack towards left end and smaller projecting stack to right end. Large gable to left end elevation and 3 large gables across front elevation, all C19, tile-hung, with plain tile roofs. Left gable and first and ground floor below it project slightly. Regular fenestration of one 3-light C19 casement beneath each gable. Half-glazed and panelled door with plain chamfered pilasters and bracketted corniced hood with triangular pediment, beneath stack off-centre to left.C19 additions to front to right and to rear to left, some associated with brewing. Interior: right end room on ground floor has dragon beam to front right corner. Central ground-floor room has chamfered axial beam and chamfer-stopped joists of slightly smaller scantling than right end room, and probably C17. 2 trusses and several rafters of a clasped purlin roof towards left end.
