II
Farmhouse. C16 with C17 and late C18 or early C19 alterations and additions, and late C18 or early C19 facade. Timber framed. Weatherboarded except part of ground floor of rear elevation, which has red brick infilling between exposed bay posts. Plain tile roof. 2 1/2 bays of a C16 house framed parallel to road, and probably formerly extending further to left. Broad C17 addition of 2 timber-framed bays and stack bay, framed at right-angles to road, running towards road from, and completely spanning, C16 section. Late C18 or early C19 range added along whole of long right (north) side, including right gable end of C16 section. 2 storeys. Underbuilt jetty on moulded brackets to road gable end of C17 section. Front (north) elevation: brick plinth. Higher eaves than C16 and C17 sections. Weatherboarded parapet with reeded cornice band, returned along whole of road frontage. Hipped roof. Hipped roof to C17 section behind. C16 section has even lower eaves and ridge, and weatherboarded gable flush with rear elevation of house. Rear stacks to right and left of front range. Multiple red and grey brick stack to right end of C17 section, to right of centre of house. Regular 3-window front of 12-pane sashes. 2 similar sashes to road return elevation. One two-light first-floor casement to rear. Central door of six fielded panels with rectangular fanlight, under corniced flat-roofed porch with reeded columns. Door with flush panels under stack to rear. Interior: exposed framing to C16 and C17 sections. C16 section has broad joists, evidence for internal subdivisions, blocked four-light diamond mullion ground-floor window to north gable end, gunstock- jowled posts, and un-sooted sans-purlin collared common-rafter roof. C17 section retains close-studded north wall and east (road) gable end on ground floor, with blocked ovolo-moulded mullion windows under former jetty and on first floor to south side of stack, and has chamfered beams, brick fireplaces with bressumers also serving C16 section, blocked ground-floor doorway in north wall, and clasped- purlin roof with diminishing principal rafters, windbraces and queen struts. Panelled doors, reeded niches and architraves, fluted dado rail, late C18 or early C19 fireplaces, and staircase with stick balusters to front range.
