TQ 74 NE MARDEN UNDERLYNN LANE (south side) 2/126 Nos 1, 2 and 3 (Chambers Cottages and Underlynn Farm Cottages) (formerly listed 23.5.67 as The White House,Underling) II Farmhouse, now cottages. Late C15 or early C16, restored 1985-6. Timber framed with rendered infilling. Plain tile roof. Wealden, with open hall of two roughly equal-length hall bays, that to right subdivided, and with storeyed end bays. 2 storeys, on plinth. Right and left storeyed end bays jettied to front, jetties returning on plain dragon posts. Close-studded. Slightly higher midrail to left hall bay. Arch braces and straight coving to flying wall-plate. Solid-spandrel bracket to central tie-beam. Steeply-pitched hipped roof with gablets. Projecting red and grey brick stack to left gable end and multiple red and grey brick stack to left end of right hall bay. Irregular fenestration of 4 casements; one two-light to left end bay, one three-light to left hall bay, one single-light over door, and one three-light to right end bay. Projecting moulding to midrail of left hall bay, possibly fragment of an oriel window. Former hall window-cill just above ground cill of same bay. 4- centred arched doorway with hollow spandrels and boarded door, to right end of right hall bay. Rear lean-to. Interior not inspected. Road marked on O.S. map as Underling Lane. Listing NGR: TQ7567946621
