Description

GROVE LANE TQ 74 NW HUNTON (North Side) 4/78 Southover GV II House. Early C16 or earlier, with C16, C17 and C18 alterations. Timber- framed. Ground floor red and grey brick in Flemish bond, first-floor tile-hung. Plain tile roof. Built at right-angles to Lane. Open hall of 2 unequal-length timber-framed bays. Storeyed right end bay or bays missing. Central area of left end of right hall bay converted to smoke bay in later C16. Storeyed left end section rebuilt and extended in C18. Two storeys and garret on brick plinth. Base of tile-hanging lower to left of door. Exposed base of principal post to right of door. Half-hipped roof. Central brick ridge stack (in left hall bay). Irregular fenestration of three 2-light casements. Boarded door under small open gabled porch beneath stack. C19 rear lean-to. Interior: exposed framing. Crown-post roof to right section.
