WEST STREET TQ 74 NW HUNTON (South-east Side) 4/126 Hunton Court 25.7.52 GV II House. C13 core to C14 house with C18 alterations and facade of circa 1848. Graduated blocks of evenly-coursed stone. Slate roof. Hall of 3 bays with C14 roof. Cross-wing to left end, projecting forwards, with C18 roof. No surviving bay adjoining right end of hall. Re-entrant angle built out, probably in mid C19, to form double-depth plan. 2 storeys an attic on low stone plinth. Central break. 2-storey canted stone bay to left. Moulded stone cornice to front, including bay, and part of right return elevation. Balustraded parapet round whole building, but slightly lower to rear and left return elevations. Moulded triangular stone pediment to central break. Roof hipped to right, hip returning. Steeply-pitched roof to left cross-wing, hipped to front and rear. 5 stone stacks with moulded cornices; one to left gable end, one to rear towards left, one to centre and one to rear towards right and one towards right end. 12-pane sashes to dormers concealed by balustrade. Irregular fenestration of 8 recessed 12-pane sashes set well below eaves, with wedge lintels, and small stone corbels to cills; 3 with blind boxes to left canted bay, 3 to central break, and 2 broadly spaced to right of break. Tall 6-pane sashes with thin glazing bars to ground floor. 2-storey canted stone bay to front of right return elevation, with 3 sashes with blind boxes. Single-storey later C19 stone porch across front of central break, with rusticated ashlar pilasters and coved and moulded cornice to parapet. Broken-based segmental pediment over central panelled door. Gothic central doorway to rear elevation. 2-storey addition to rear to left in chequered red and grey brick, with slate roof and dentilled eaves cornice. Interior: only partly inspected. Hall roof with 2 moulded octagonal crown-posts to centre and one moulded semi-octagonal pilaster crown-post to each end, all with braces of square section to collar purlin and collars. Staggered butt-purlin roof to left cross-wing. Stone-vaulted L-plan "cellar", probably C13 rather than C14, with bevelled pointed arch to entrance to narrower foot of L and 2 broad plain-chamfered round-arched ribs to main section.
