Description

The following building shall be added to the list:- BOUGHTON ROAD TQ 8951 (East side) 11/10001 Oxley House including attached granary - II House, formerly Bailiff's house to the Chilston estate. Late C18 or early C19 with C19 additions to rear (north) elevation. Red brick in Flemish bond, C19 additions tile hung on first floor, with plain tiled roof and end brick chimneystacks. Two storeys attic and basement. Three regularly-spaced windows to front (south) elevation which are 16-pane sashes in open boxes. Brick dentil eaves cornice and raised plat band. Segmental brick arches to ground floor windows. Central 6-panelled door with flat weatherhood over. Two hipped dormers. North elevation has C19 casements and C20 wooden porch. Attached granary to rear is weather boarded with hipped plain tiled roof. Interior contains much original joinery. Stick staircase with column newel. Right hand front room retains simple pine panelling to dado height, chimneypiece and overmantel and arched china recesses with serpentine shelves. Another room has open fireplace with moulded wooden bressumer, 2 cupboards, brick hearth and 4-panelled door with spyhole. First floor has 2 rooms with wooden surrounds to fireplaces, cupboards, some with L-hinges and cast iron firegrates. Cellar has cambered alcoves. Listing NGR: TQ8901751098
