Description

LENHAM OLD ASHFORD ROAD TQ 8952 and 9052 (north side) 10/214 Grove House 26.4.68. II House. Early C19. Grey-painted chanelled stucco with slate roof. Double depth. 2 storeys. Hipped roof. Projecting eaves with flat soffits. One rendered ridge stack towards each end. Regular 5-window front of glazing-bar sashes alternating with Giant Order of white-painted Doric pilasters, outer pilasters forming wide panels, inner supporting plain frieze. Capitals of 2 inner pilasters form imposts for a moulded semi-circular arch which pushes up into a large plain triangular gable. 4 French windows on ground floor and central door of 6 fielded panels. Verandah round left side and front with glazed roof carried on plain iron trellis with occasional decorative vertical panels. Giant Order continues irregularly along left side elevation with 3 glazing-bar sashes with white-painted keystones detached from them and suggested in the plain frieze. Low 2-storey extension to right. Interior not inspected. Listing NGR: TQ9000852210
