LENHAM THE SQUARE (north side) TQ 8952 No 13 (Norman Funnell, Butcher) 10/233 (formerly listed as House occupied by J E Raynham and 20.10.52. lock up shop occupied by GV II Mrs Langridge)
Shop and house. Early C16 with mid-to-late C16 wing and mid C19 addition. Timber framed with early C19 red brick front in Flemish bond with dentilled eaves cornice. Right gable hung with fishscale tiles. Plain tile roof. Wealden of 3 bays; storeyed right end, open central bay, and either open or storeyed left end bay. Single bay rear wing recessed from right side elevation of front range with mid C19 2-storey addition to end of it. 2 storeys with rear brick stack at junction between main range and wing. Irregular fenestration of 3 windows; one tall 2-light casement to right, tripartite sash to centre, and sash without glazing-bars to left. Early C20 flat-roofed rectangular shop front projecting at right end with low decorative iron balcony and plain door. C20 half-glazed door to left end of elevation. Rear wing timber-framed, with lean-to to right side con- taining door with glazed panel. C19 addition: chequered red and grey brick with plain tile roof. 2 storeys, with roof half-hipped to rear. One glazing-bar sash to each floor. Interior: 4-light diamond mullion window to wing. First floor fireplace with chamfered lintel. Exposed timbers.
