Description

TQ 75 NE BOXLEY THE STREET (east side) 5/85 Court Lodge G.V. II House. C16 with C17 and C19 additions and alterations. Timber framed with C19 cladding. Built in 4 sections and set approx. 40 yards back from street. Range parallel to street: Mid C16. Ground floor rendered, first floor tile-hung in Cl9 with thin bands of plain and thick bands of fishscale tiles. Rendered gables with moulded bargeboards to front elevation and left end. Right gable end on drop in ground level with galletted stone plinth surmounted by brick in English bond up to ground level of front elevation, tile hung above. Plain tile roof with crested ridge tiles. 2 storeys and garet, with cellar at right end. Jettied along front eleva- tion and formerly also on left gable end. 2 very large eaves gables. Stack in rear slope of roof, off-centre to left. 3 timber- framed bays. Irregular fenestration of 3 C19 mullioned sashes with canted bay windows below. Panelled door with sloping hood on brackets in left gable end of short C19 rear lean-to. Recessed range to right: Late C16. Stone plinth, plastered ground floor, cemented first floor, plain tile roof. 2 storeys. Jettied. Large stack to right gable with stone base forming ground floor wall. 2 timber-framed bays. Hipped through dormer to left. Rear wing to recessed range: C17 or C18 timber-framed clad with brick and tile- hanging with plain tile roof. 2 storeys, one timber framed bay. Late C19 2-storey rear addition completing the block. Interior: exposed timbers. Plain crown-posts to main range. Said to have been built for Thomas Vicary, Surgeon to Henry VIII.
