HARRIETSHAM WEST STREET TQ 85 SE (south side) 4/66 No. 25 (Clare Cottage) and 27 GV II House or house row, now offices. C16, late C17 or early C18, and late C20. Ground floor painted brick, first floor tile- hung, right section with plain and fishscale tiles. Plain tile roof. Late C17 or early C18 3-bay range parallel to street and C16 cross-wing to left. 3 bays deep. 2 storeys, with garret to cross-wing, on stone plinth. Roof of cross-wing half-hipped. One brick ridge stack either end of right range. Irregular fenestration of one single-light garret casement to wing and one 20-pane glazing bar sash to first floor. Right range has 3 three-light casements. 2 panelled doors with flat bracketted hoods; one to left end of wing and one to left of centre of right range. Plain boarded door to right of centre of right range. Plain boarded door to right of centre of same range. Interior: Wing: probably originally jettied to front. Large fireplace on right side wall of ground floor with herringbone brickwork and elongated 4-centred arched bressumer with leaves to spandrels. Arched wall-braces. Roof raised and rebuilt with side purlins. Exposed timbers in both ranges. Listing NGR: TQ8660352744
