YALDING HIGH STREET TQ 6950 (west side) 6/133 Former Barn and Byres about 40 metres west of Court Lodge. (formerly listed 30.4.1986 under Kenward Street). GV II Barn. Four south bays subsequently converted to oast house. Now house pair. C17 or early C18, converted to houses 1986. Timber framed, weatherboarded, with plain tile roof. 7 timber-framed bays with front and rear aisles. Midstrey to third bay from north end. Four south end bays formerly converted to oast house with brick-based kilns to aisles, and with lath and straw-daub plenum chambers. Single storey and garret, on red and grey brick plinth. Steeply-pitched gabled roof with no dormer windows. Irregular fenestration to east, of 3 three-light casements to south of porch and none to north under eaves, and four to south and three to north on ground floor. Weatherboarded east porch rising from aisle to north of centre, with gabled roof jettied forwards on shaped solid-spandrel brackets. Similar porch to west side of former midstrey. 1986 doorways. Interior: gunstock - jowled principal posts on high brick padstones. Staggered butt purlin roof, but with continuous purlin to two south bays. Raked queen posts to purlins between two south bays, raked queen struts to collars to rest. Intermediate collars. Virtually straight arch brace to arcade plate at south end. Face-halved arcade-plate scarf joints. Kilns non-extant. Former byres: early C19. Single-storey, running east from north and south ends of east side of barn. Each range formerly seven bays, now six, open to yard with posts on padstones. Rear walls red and grey brick in Flemish bond, with dentilled brick eaves cornice, and each wall with boarded door towards cast end. Plain tile roofs, hipped to east. Listing NGR: TQ6981150216
