BOUGHTON MALHERBE CHURCH ROAD TQ 84 NE [South side) Grafty Green 6/10 The Old Rectory 26.4.68 II Rectory, now house. Said to be C15. Alterations and additions of C16 and later. Timber framed, hung on both floors with fishscale tiles. Plain tile roof. Main range with cross-wing projecting forwards to right and truncated semi-circular turret in re-entrant angle. Cross-wing to left, facade of first floor flush with that of main range. Rectangular stair turret added to front at iunction of main range and left wing. C19 addition to left end, projecting forwards. 2 storeys and attics. Apparent continuous jetty on solid brackets to main range and (visible internally) with close-studding above to left cross-wing. Ground floor of C19 left addition partly open, first floor carried on painted posts. Steeply pitched roof to C19 addition, with moulded bargeboards. Moulded bargeboards to (lower) left cross-wing. Horizontal tile-hung link between the two roofs. Pyramidal roof to stair turret with decorative iron finial. Roof of right wing hipped to front. Small ridge stack to junction of main range and left cross-wing. Brick stack to rear. and another to right side of right wing. Hipped dormers, to main range and right wing. Irregular fenestration of 5 windows; one 3-light casement with top lights to C19 addition, deep 6-light mullioned and transomed window to stair turret, two 12-pane sashes to main range, and tripartite sash to right wing. Half-glazed double doors in painted wooden porch with leaded roof, moulded gable and Doric columns, towards centre of main range. Painted brick lean-to with stable door across front of left cross-wing, between C19 addition and stair turret. Right return elevation of right wing built out slightly in small blocks of coursed stone, with lean-to roof, and semi-circular bay towards centre. Interior not inspected. Listing NGR: TQ8819449629
