STAPLEHURST STATION ROAD TQ 7843 (West side) 5/169 Martyrs' Memorial GV II Memorial. 1904. Ashlared stone. Plinth, with chamfered base and moulded cornice, set on chamfered rendered base, and surmounted by obelisk with raised ashlar verges to tooled panels. Bronze plaque inscribed "This Monument is Dedicated to the Memory of Alice Potkins, Joan Bradbridge and Alice Benden of Staplehurst, also of Edmund Allen and Katherine his wife, of Frittenden, who for the faith suffered death 1556 · 1557 during the Marian persecution".
