Description

STAPLEHURST THORN ROAD TQ 74 SE (North-West side) 3/173 Great Pagehurst Place (formerly 25.7.52 listed as Great Pagehurst) GV II Farmhouse. Early C17, with C19 and C20 alterations. Timber framed. Ground floor red and grey brick in Flemish bond, first floor tile-hung. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys, on low stone plinth. Hipped roof, left hip returning with slightly higher ridge. Prominent C17 brick ridge stack to left of centre, with 4 octagonal brick flues with moulded capitals and bases, grouped round central diamond-shaped shaft and set on moulded brick plinth. Irregular fenestration of six 2-pane sashes grouped 2:1:2:1. Panelled door with 2 top lights and flat corniced hood, under stack. Rear return wing to left in same materials, with ridge stack towards rear and with 2 first-floor sashes. Further rear wing parallel to main range, infilling angle between main range and return wing, and probably of similar date, but with higher eaves and ridge; terminates behind main-range stack, with jettied gable.
