Description

TQ 74 SW MARDEN BEECH ROAD (south side) 3/28 Cornwells 23.5.67 II Farmhouse. Mid C17 with late C18 or early C19 facade. Timber framed. Ground floor red and grey brick in Flemish bond, first floor tile- hung. Plain tile roof. Lobby entry plan of 3 timber-framed bays, with further 2 (integral) timber-framed bays forming left cross-wing which projects to rear. 2 storeys. Jetty to rear gable end of wing. Steeply-pitched roof hipped to left (hip returning to rear), half- hipped to right with gablet. Red and grey brick ridge stack to right end of left-central bay, C19 brick stack rising from eaves of front wall towards right end, and projecting red and grey brick stack to long right side of wing. Irregular fenestration of 3 casements; one three-light each side of stack, one two-light under stack, and nothing to right end bay. Ribbed door with flat bracketed hood under stack. Weatherboarded lean-to to long left side of wing, with louvred (dairy?) window towards front. Single-storey late C18 or early C19 red and grey brick addition to right with plain-tile roof hipped to right and with two two-light casements. Interior: exposed framing. Chamfered beams. Large plain painted brick fireplace with chamfered bressumer, niches, and small salt cupboard to left, red and grey brick fireplace in English bond to right. Shaped jowls and gunstock jowls to principal posts. Right end bay of roof partitioned off with vertical and horizontal lathing. Clasped purlin roof with raked jowled queen posts, and windbraces.
