at Ingress Abbey

Garden tunnel. Early to mid C19, altered in 1940s. Stock brick garden wall bond round-headed arched tunnel about 75 to 100 feet in length. It is one of a number of garden features in the grounds of Ingress Abbey and it passes through a large chalk outcrop with views over the garden. During the Second World War the tunnel was blocked off with brickwork at both ends to form an air raid shelter.
