Full Description
On a number of cartographic sources dating to the post medieval period, a victualing office is located bounding the north west corner of Granville Dock, near the Cross pent Wall. Victualing offices were used to supply provisions and as stores for the navy, another was located at the Maison Dieu in Dover. A map by Foquet dating to 1737 clearly shows and labels the structure (1) as does another slightly later map by Hogben which dates to 1769. (2) Later cartographic sources also depict structures in the same approximate location as this office but these are not labelled and it is therefore unclear as to whether the office remained at this location into the later post medieval period.
