Monument record tq 67 SW 1471 - Mill pond and culvert connected to Robins Creek
Summary
The mill pond comprises a rectangular, brick-lined, tank some 15m long by 6m wide with a round-arched brick culvert connecting with Robins Creek at the
eastern end. The Ebbsfleet River flows through the bottom of the pond, presumably via a culvert at the W end but this is obscured by the vegetation which lines the sides of the pond. The mill pond is thought to have served a tidal mill of possibly late-C18 date but with pre-C16 origins. It was later used to grind clinker for Aspdin’s cement works. The pond appears on the 1838 tithe map but covers a much larger area than currently.
Location accurate to 2m based on available information.
