Full Description
From a 2017 historic England listing assessment report:
"A brick boundary wall in several sections runs approximately 165m along the N side of Grove
Road from the western end of Robins Creek to the western end of the slipway. The western
section, up to the entrance to the former Stave Yard, is of stock brick, approximately 1.5m
high, with soldier-course coping and terminating with a brick pier. The wall continues on the
eastern side of the entrance with a tall, cement-rendered, brick pier with a distinctive shaped
cap above a roll moulding. Four of these piers are shown on an illustration of the cement
works from a letterhead for Robins and Co around 1855. E of the gate pier the wall continues,
much patched and with a large number of arched openings (now blocked) presumably added
in the late-C19 as windows for the buildings developed within the Stave Yard. The wall here
has been heightened with flintwork. At the eastern end of this section the wall has been rebuilt
with modern bricks. Beyond this another of the original cement-rendered gate piers survives
although with the render to the cap above the moulding removed, exposing the brick core."
