Full Description
During observations made by Archaeology South East for shoring the deep navigation cut being built to link the Wellington Dock section of Dover Harbour to the existing outer harbour, a North-South line of oak piles up to 2m long was found. These piles were not as closely set as others which have been found during these works and there was no associated waling beam attached to them. The technological evidence would suggest a 16th to 18th century date for this feature and may have possibly formed party of the early post medieval harbour wall. (summarised from source)(1)
