Full Description
30 pieces of Roman pottery, including sherds of samian ware, were recovered during excavations undertaken in 1924 for the construction of Garages (Omnibus Depot) off the former site of St. James Street, Dover. Roman material has been found at this location prior to this in the form of a large timber Roman harbour feature which was discovered during the excavation of a gasometer pit in the later 19th century which occupied the site before the construction of the garages. The pottery is now in Dover Museum. (1)
