Full Description
A number of Roman finds were made at the premises of Mr Dickeson on Queens Street/Market Lane in the later 19th century. These finds include a double handled Lagena of a red sandy clay was found during the construction of the property in 1871. The Lagena is of an Italo-Greek type with long handles & flat band rim. Three large rectangular Roman tiles of plain red clay have also been located; one has a cross marked with a feather comb and a knob in the centre, while another has two peg holes. Four sherds of Samian ware pottery were also found on Market Larket lane by Mr Parsons in 1915. These finds were donated to Dover Museum where they are located still. (1)
