Findspot record TR 34 SW 1868 - Roman Findspot, Queen Street/Market Lane, Dover.

Summary

A number of Roman finds were made at the premises of Mr Dickeson on Queens Street/Market Lane in the later 19th century. These finds include a double handled Lagena of a red sandy clay was found during the construction of the property in 1871. The Lagena is of an Italo-Greek type with long handles & flat band rim. Three large rectangular Roman tiles of plain red clay have also been located; one has a cross marked with a feather comb and a knob in the centre, while another has two peg holes. In 1915 further Roman finds, this time consisting of four samian ware sherds were located on Market Lane. (location accurate to the nearest 10m based on available information)
