Summary

Calverley House is of a domestic architectural appearance with a three storey frontage that dominates its neighbours, in terms of massing. It is an example of Victorian pattern book design in red brick and stone quoin dressing, of limited merit. The building has been devalued with the use of UPVC replacement bay windows, its major feature, which diminishes the overall appearance and emphases the verticality of the façade. Originally Calverley House had a gap on its eastern side having been conceived as a pavilion building with space to breathe around it. This gap was infilled sometime between 1897 and 1905 when Camden House, the corner property fronting the key nodal space of the crossroads,
