Summary

Site of Friends Meeting House in Canterbury Lane. In 1687-8 Friends bought three small tenements in Canterbury Lane and built a meeting house to the rear of those. This was altered or reconstructed in 1773. In the mid 19th century the cottages in front were replaced by a new building with two entrances and two tiers of windows. The meeting house was destroyed by bombs in the Second World War and a new meeting-house built in The Friars.

Full Description

Site of former Friends Meeting House at 10 Canterbury Lane. This building was opened in 1688 and altered in 1772. It was bombed out in 1942 and the congregation now meets at 6 The Friars near the Marlowe Theatre. The original building is shown on the 1862-75 and 1897-1900 maps.
